Record piano, export MIDI
- Upload a short recording or record a melody with your microphone.
- Transcribe, then compare the original recording with the synthesized MIDI preview.
- Correct notes in the piano roll and download a standard MIDI file for your DAW.
What works best?
Clear single-instrument recordings: piano melodies, synthesizer phrases and humming. Basic Pitch can detect multiple notes, but dense chords, room noise, reverb and full mixes can cause missing or false notes. Always listen and edit before using the result.
Can I convert M4A to MIDI?
Yes, if your browser supports the recording’s AAC/M4A codec. If decoding fails, export the recording as WAV or MP3 first.
Where does my recording go?
Audio is decoded and transcribed locally in a disposable browser worker. Only the open-source model is downloaded. Clearing or leaving the page releases your recording. When signed in, converted MIDI files and edits are saved to your private My MIDI library (up to 100 files); the original audio is not uploaded. You can download or delete saved MIDI in your dashboard. Without an account, download your MIDI before leaving.
Is it really free?
Yes. Upload, microphone recording, transcription, editing and MIDI download are free, without account, watermark or payment. Based on Spotify Basic Pitch (Apache-2.0). License.
