Two backgrounds, one set of tools
My background is in physics and acoustics, and I work professionally with acoustics. Alongside that, I've spent years producing and DJing electronic music. Studio Music Tools exists because those two worlds rarely talk to each other — acoustic theory is usually written for engineers, and production advice usually treats the room as an afterthought. I built the calculators and guides here to sit in the middle: technically credible enough to trust, explained the way a producer actually thinks about their space.
The philosophy behind every tool
A studio shouldn't be treated with random acoustic foam or generic rules copied from a forum post. The order that actually works is: first understand your room — its dimensions, its resonances, how sound behaves in it — and only then make informed choices about speaker placement, listening position, treatment, measurement, and workflow. Every calculator on this site exists to answer the "understand your room" half of that equation, honestly and without inventing numbers the underlying physics doesn't support.
